"Butter Knife" is a publication focused on the field of art publishing, primarily featuring book introductions and reviews. The first summer issue will revolve around the theme of "books are not books, images are not images." This issue selects books that discuss the contemporary definition of zines, how photography and viewing transform over time, and the various possibilities of art book fairs, both distant and nearby.
This issue includes "Paper Zine Renaissance," "Seven Days in Riyadh," Yes, BOOK, Graphic #51 ART BOOK FAIR NOW, Agnes Pori—an emergent city, "Logoff Collection," "Mine," Micheldorf Micheldorf Micheldorf Micheldorf, and "Wandering Through."
The back of the book review features another column: "Stay Open, Stay Curious: Chen Yi-chiu and Ponding." Last year, MoCA invited Fool's Day Books to host and plan a podcast about art publishing as a contemporary practice. We began by discussing how different practitioners enter art publishing, gradually outlining the Taiwanese scene, and attempting to depict physical books through abstract soundscapes.
With the publication of "Butter Knife," starting from the original interviews and adding extended materials and supplements, we hope to create a seasonal article that sketches out Taiwanese art publishing practices. For the summer issue, let's begin with Ponding, the origin of everything.
