"Street Report" is a street investigation project jointly launched by Faiz Bin Zohri, Cathy Hang, gideon-jamie, and publisher Atelier HOKO. They conduct on-site visits to local areas to deeply observe events and phenomena occurring on the streets.
This book, "Street Report 3: Ding Ding (trams in Hong Kong)," is guided by Hong Kong landscape architect Cathy Hang, unveiling the development and transformation of Hong Kong's tram system—locally known as "Ding Ding"—in the city.
The Ding Ding tram has a double-decker body design and earned its endearing nickname due to the "ding-ding-ding" sound it makes when arriving at a stop. In the hearts of every Hongkonger, the Ding Ding tram holds an irreplaceable position. It travels daily on its tracks, carrying people to their destinations, witnessing the changes in the city's streetscape, the traces of historical struggles, and becoming a shared memory for the local people. Cathy Hang skillfully captures and interprets the interaction between people and transportation, and even a city, from both a human and a Ding Ding tram perspective.
