"Did Dad dive into that sea too?"
A long journey away from home and back home, a deep dive into life experience and memory

*New artist Kai Zhiyu’s first graphic novel
*The writing is as mysterious and profound as the ocean, leading readers to dive deep into the depths of consciousness
*The most private family memories unfold the complex path of Aboriginal identity in contemporary cities

Starting from a house by the sea, Kai Zhiyu opened the door of memory and brought his first graphic novel "MAPAYTAYAY NO WAWA Children of the Dead". This is a deep dive into the memory of his father and his hometown, and it is also a tribal story. A trance-like drift between the city, life and death, reality and dreams.

Zhiyu’s father comes from the Maogong tribe in Hualien. His grandfather is from the Kavalan tribe and his grandmother is from the Ami tribe. As well as his urban experience growing up in Sanchong, Taipei, his identification and return to his aboriginal identity has been unique to him. After his father passed away, he became what his grandmother called "mapatayay no wawa" (the child of the deceased). How did he pursue the mysteries about his father: a military diary left by his father, a childhood fever that brought his father heart disease, and... The internal Qigong exercise is like the swaying phantom of a giant... Under Zhiyu's brushwork full of moisture and texture, on this journey to find his father, reality and fantasy coexist, and humans and animals interact and deform. "Going home? Should you go back or go?" The question echoes throughout the book. If you get closer to your father's memory, will you get closer to your hometown?

"Perhaps the answer is hidden in the sea." In his highly poetic and private inquiry, the human world becomes a huge ocean, allowing us to dive down and see the return and exile hidden in the body - or, we are all children of the dead. .
