Stefan Sagmeister’s new book, “Now is Better,” encourages us to think long-term and reminds us that many things in the world are improving.
The book was originally conceived in 2020, as the world was entering pandemic lockdowns. Through collected data, Stefan Sagmeister created a book that explores the current state of the world, clearly showing how far we have come, and encouraging us to consider where we can go next.
In the book, statistics are vividly presented: numbers are transformed into charts and incorporated into 19th-century paintings, embroidered canvases, lenticular prints, and hand-painted cups.
The book includes a foreword by psychologist and authority on language and the mind Steven Pinker; an essay by graphic designer and historian Steven Heller; and a conversation between Sagmeister and Hans Ulrich Obrist, curator and artistic director of London's Serpentine Galleries. This book will appeal to all visually oriented readers, offering a positive response to the turbulent news cycles of recent years.
