Street Report 5: Carpet Hangers

The fifth volume of "Street Report" examines "klofer štange," carpet beating racks in the neighborhoods of Zagreb, Croatia. These practical pieces of furniture, commonly found in post-war socialist housing developments, served as public facilities for airing out private carpets to remove dust. While their importance in public life may have diminished with the advent of modern vacuum cleaners and other cleaning products, they still stand between residential buildings. Some "klofer štange" have been given new public functions, some are in an awkward position due to lifestyle changes, and some look almost like minimalist sculptures. Why haven't they been removed?
