Architectural Scholars Professional Review∣Translation∣Notes
"I don't believe in harmony. I don't like compromise." ── Zaha Hadid
"She is the embodiment of beauty and strength." ── Koolhaas|Architect of Beijing CCTV
[Sit on an equal footing with men in the pyramid of the architectural world]
Zaha Hadid, the first female architect to receive the highest honor in architecture, died of a heart attack on March 31, 2016 at the age of 65. She liked to wear Issey Miyake's costumes, and she attracted media attention during her lifetime. She was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2004. In the male-dominated architectural field, she wrote a legend as an Iraqi woman and shined brightly.
Born in Baghdad in 1950, he became curious about architecture at the age of six. He first studied mathematics in Beirut, and then transferred to London to study architecture. In 1977, he obtained a professional diploma from the AA Institute of Architecture in London, UK, and then joined Koolhaas' Metropolitan Architecture Office (Kolhaas was her supervisor when she was in school.) Three years later, she set up her own business. However, her architectural career was not smooth sailing. She did not receive a design project for 6 years, and she did not build her first building until 16 years after graduation. .
Her most direct architectural pedigree and nutrition comes from the AA Architectural Association College in London. When I was studying, the school was at the pinnacle of the global architectural experiment center. From her thesis design "Malevich's Construction" to the Hong Kong "The Peak" competition entry, she has proved to thousands of architects and design students that the design method she established is a new form of architecture. Although the competing works including "The Peak" in Hong Kong and the Kudammstrasse in Berlin, Germany, have attracted international attention, they have also been questioned that the design is difficult to implement. It was not until 1993 that she finally built her first work, the Vitra Fire Station in Germany, officially breaking away from the architect on paper. After winning the Pritzker Prize in 2004, the highest honor in the architecture industry, it opened the road to success in 55 countries around the world.
"Her work is very special, few people dare to design like this." ──Architect Peter Cook
With her Arabic culture and mathematics background, coupled with her adept use of computer technology, she conceived complex geometric curves and surfaces, and bravely challenged the limits of architecture. She has accumulated many works in Asia, including China's famous works-the Guangzhou Opera House with a capacity of 1,800 people, the curve building-Beijing Wangjing SOHO, Beijing Galaxy SOHO, Shanghai Lingkong SOHO, and the Hong Kong Jockey Club Innovation Building, and The Seoul Dongdaemun Design Plaza, which will reshape the urban landscape of South Korea, and the world's longest single-tower asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge will also be completed in Tamsui, Taiwan.
In addition to Asia, the classic works that have been widely reported by the global media in recent years also include the MAXXI National Museum of Art for the 21st Century in Rome with a distinctive personal style, the Fino Science Center in Wolfsburg, Germany, the BMW Automobile Factory Office Center, and the Chanel Action Art Pavilion, the London Aquatics Centre, the Aliyev Cultural Center designed for the young Muslim country Azerbaijan in 2012, and the King Abdullah Petroleum Research Center completed in 2017.
The New York Times described her architecture as "sublimating uncertainty into art." She has the courage to challenge the unknown and create a new design, which not only affects the architectural world, but also opens the future vision of all designers. It is not easy to publish this complete collection of classic pictures and texts, the sources of copyright are diverse, and the authorization is complicated. The introduction is specially commissioned by Aaron Betsky, the authoritative godfather across art, architecture and design. The book not only includes her important architectural paintings and project designs from her graduation work in 1976 to her death in 2016, but also includes curation, fashion boutique, lighting, tableware, furniture, home decoration and interior design. The essence of ZAHA's forty years of creation.
This book specially invites architectural scholars to translate and review, hoping to make complete annotations and review of translations of professional terms in the book for new terms and new techniques in architectural design.
