The humid atmosphere of the Ganges, where thousands of bodies travel day and night towards a single goal; the inaccessibility of the Azores, creating an isolated tranquility and autonomy, forcing inhabitants to master the art of survival; the unique oasis of Maracás in Brazil, where white sandy soil carries the generational sentiments of indigenous peoples; young Portuguese people shedding sweat both inside and outside the bullring, a faith-like intertwining of blood and tears, continuing a little-known cultural heritage.

When the body transcends linguistic boundaries, acting sincerely and with goodwill, photography, unlike the subjective viewpoint of painting, uses underlying vision to capture traditional culture, rare realities, religious beliefs, and contemporary issues within its format. Each piece invites the audience into a foreign land, using the shutter to capture a unique momentary perspective, to intercept, preserve, and reveal the truth. This is a documentary photography exhibition featuring Eduardo Leal, a documentary photographer from Portugal, who now lives and works in Macao.

For nearly two decades, Eduardo Leal has been active in Macao, Southeast Asia, and Europe and America, focusing on culture, environment, indigenous peoples, and various regional issues. Responding to the classic quote by renowned war photographer Robert Capa, "If your pictures aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough," Leal presents his on-site documentary works from extended residencies to the other side of the world. He physically stays as an insider, humbly and respectfully documenting the land, forming images through his shutter and optical lens. He deeply reflects on the multifaceted nature of society—survival and life, truth and reality, belief and mutual understanding—opening the public's perception of documentary photography and leading viewers into his sensory world to connect with their imagination.

The contrasting neon lights and street life of this bustling small city, like two sides of a mirror, captured his attention. As an image journalist for international media, Eduardo Leal, with his keen sensitivity, uncovers the unknown. Behind the interweaving light and shadow of his images are countless anonymous poems he writes about the places he stays.
