The Landscape

Born and raised in a small town in Henan, Chen Zhuo, like most young people with similar upbringings, chose to leave the county where he grew up to live and study in the city. The starkly different atmosphere and texture between the county and the city created a sense of estrangement.

It is precisely with this sense of estrangement that, since 2011, Chen Zhuo has traveled to unfamiliar places rarely visited by others, capturing the landscapes he was captivated by. These landscape photographs subtly convey a stubborn energy, as well as a sense of absurdity resulting from residual human impact on nature.

For Chen Zhuo, photography seems to be a process of "healing." Chen Zhuo believes that it is because some psychological energy within him is projected onto the landscapes of these corners that he is able to see and be attracted to them.
